Entries are now open for qualified teachers of Australia and New Zealand to share a personal essay or letter that is filled with the truth about teaching. This is an opportunity to speak your truth and answer the question –
What are the current triumphs and challenges of teaching in Australia/NZ?
A personal essay or ‘a letter to...’ should still have a formal tone and subjective universality. This means that you should avoid being too conversational and casual. This competition is a game of skill, therefore your language choices and writing style should clearly answer the competition question.
All potential entrants are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the submission guidelines before submitting their personal essay. 2000 – 5000 words. Microsoft Word Format with Avenir or Verdana font, size 12 with 1.5 lines spacing must be submitted online no later than 11.59PM AEST on September 1st, 2021. It must include the word count at the top of the page, and it is optional to put a short bio at the end of your written submission. All referencing should be written in APA referencing style.
Reminder: Take the time to assess whether your essay could be harmful to your career if published publicly. Anonymous stories will be accepted with an associated personal email address and permission verified before posting online or in print.
Early submissions are encouraged. The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful applicants. Applicants will be notified by 1 October, 2021. The judges will be looking for a strong teacher advocate with a clear voice for change and new bold perspectives. We’re looking for a written essay or letter that commands attention and interest. The winner will receive $500 in cash.
