Issue 5 Hard Copy Magazine
Teaching in New Zealand sounds like a dream...
Our online teaching community has opened the door to classrooms all over the world. We can chat with teachers in the US, UK, and EU. Best yet, we can chat with (and hopefully one day meet) the teachers over in NZ.
Teachers shared about relevant topics like imposter syndrome, feeling overwhelmed, workplace bullying, personal trauma, resilience, and trauma-informed practices. Learn more on NZ culture, classrooms, and responses to remote learning.
If you haven't already, read Atama's personal story and then listen to his podcast interview, exploring life as a Māori educator. There is a lot to learn from our neighbouring country, especially on the topic of First Nations Peoples. I particularly loved how each teacher searched for ways to include Māori language in their articles.
There was even a cameo from our favourite gifted and talented teacher, Sarah, who had recently travelled over to NZ for a holiday - before COVID, obviously.
